Foodprint offers a unique platform that connects users with local eateries selling surplus food at approximately 30% of the standard retail price. Participating establishments regularly update their inventories with surplus items that would otherwise be discarded. Importantly, this food remains safe for consumption and is of comparable quality to what one would find in a conventional store. The app facilitates a seamless experience, allowing users to search for and purchase food products while simultaneously supporting local businesses and mitigating food waste.

Through the Foodprint application, users can:

The issue of food waste has significant implications. Currently, approximately one-third of all produced food is discarded, resulting in a substantial waste of resources—land, water, labor, and capital. Moreover, when food is disposed of in landfills, it decomposes and releases methane, a greenhouse gas that exacerbates climate change.

In New Zealand alone, cafés, restaurants, and supermarkets generate around 50,000 tonnes of food waste each year. Alarmingly, over 60% of this waste is preventable as the food is still suitable for human consumption. Foodprint presents an effective and user-friendly solution for both consumers and businesses alike, ultimately contributing to a reduction in overall food waste.
